An Imperial format of the Grand Cru Bordeaux Cheval Blanc 1947 was sold in Geneva on Tuesday 17th november 2010 to a private collector for 304,375 dollars (223,967 euros), auction house Christie’s said it’s a record for this type of bottle.
“We are absolutely delighted with the result obtained by the legendary bottle of wine Cheval-Blanc 1947 sold for 304,375 dollars to an anonymous collector, told AFP the expert from Christie’s wine department, Michael Ganne.
The bottle size is very rare, the Imperial contains 6 liters of this precious nectar sprayed Christie’s estimates that ranged between 150,000 and 250,000 dollars.
This sale is an established world record prices in the wine category. It was the “only known bottle of Imperial format” for this vintage Saint-Emilion.
According to the specialist, who tested, this vintage is “undoubtedly one of the greatest Bordeaux of all time, not only for its rare but also because of its durability, since it may still be retained 50 years without any problem. ”
The wine was owned by a Swiss collector wished to remain anonymous, this prestigious wine has been reconditioned at the chateau of White Horse, with a new bottle and a new cap.
